23.04.2021, Donetsk.

The Ukrainian military is intensifying shelling in Donbass to destabilize the situation on the contact line, the Deputy Chief of the Operative Command of Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Eduard Basurin said to reporters on April 23.

“The enemy keep on trying to destabilize the situation on the contact line and for this purpose continues to intensify the provocative shelling of the territory of our republic,” he explained.

Although earlier additional ceasefire measures came into force in the Donbass, since February 2021, Ukraine consistently intensified shelling in Donbass. On April 23, the Ukrainian army shelled the region with large-caliber artillery. Observers report that at 07.15 p.m. (Moscow time zone), the enemy opened fire from Shumy village occupied by the Ukrainian army. 6 152mm artillery shells and 21 120mm mortar shells were fired on Gagarin mine village.

During the morning the Ukrainian military violated the ceasefire regime four times, a total of 45 rounds of ammunition with a caliber larger than 12.7 mm were fired one the villages.

As a result of the shelling, civilians are being injured and the elderly and children are being killed. In response to the DPR and LPR statements, the Ukrainian side accuses Donbass of staging an attack to discredit the Ukrainian army.
