The militants violently suppressed a protest against the presence of Turkish-backed armed units in al-Bab village (Aleppo province, Syria), wounding five protesters. Deputy head of the Russian Centre for reconciliation of opposing sides in the Syrian Arab Republic Aleksandr Karpov said this during a briefing on March 3.

According to Karpov, about 150 civilians came out to the protest calling for the withdrawal of Turkish-backed armed groups. The protesters demanded the return of territories seized by the militants under the control of the Syrian authorities.

The deputy head of the center said that the peaceful rally was “violently suppressed by the militants with the use of force, as a result of which five local residents were injured.”

Karpov also said that there was an increase in protest activity of local residents on the territory seized by the militants. It is noted that local residents are dissatisfied with the lawlessness of Islamists.
