The idea that nuclear weapons present an extreme danger to humanity has been eroded over the recent period in statements by politicians and in Hollywood films, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on November 11 on the air of the Evening with Vladimir Solovyov TV program on the Russia One channel.
According to the political scientist, the question of who is stronger has always been tested in practice by war. The range of weapons used to this end is growing, and the world is being prepared to accept the use of nuclear weapons, he stressed.
“Increasingly often discussions take place that thermonuclear weapons can be clean and that costs can be limited. We can see this even in Hollywood films: there are three holes in the ground like New York or something else ― but on the bright side, we are building a new world etc. This means that continued attempts take place to undermine the barrier of the prohibition, terror, taboo that humanity has towards the use of nuclear weapons,” Sergey Kurginyan noted.
According to Kurginyan, even in the coming years a nuclear conflict can take place. “This can be obscured in a conflict between India and Pakistan, or between similar nuclear powers,” he noted. This kind of a conflict can happen around Israel, he added.
On July 17 the US Defense Secretary said that the US nuclear potential was higher than any other military on the globe. The US continues to improve its nuclear weapons using major investments.
Vladimir Putin, in his turn, said on November 11 that a novel, almost invulnerable nuclear forces command system had been created. The Russian nuclear potential is maintained “at the level of necessary sufficiency.”
Meanwhile, the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START III) between the US and Russia is put in a precarious position, as it is set to expire on February 5, 2021.
