Armenian Ambassador to Russia: Turkey redeploys militants from Syria to fight in Karabakh

28.09.2020, Moscow.

Turkey redeployed around four thousand militants from Syria to Azerbaijan, and they are already fighting against Karabakh. Armenian Ambassador to Russia Vardan Toganyan said this in an interview with RIA Novosti on September 28.

“According to our information, Turkey recently redeployed around 4 thousand militants from Syria to Azerbaijan. They are already participating on the other side,” the ambassador said.

He added that the militants are trained in special camps and redeployed to Azerbaijan. He also added that it was very difficult to determine the nationality of the members of those groups.

It should be noted that the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense retaliated accusations, saying that “people from Syria and other Middle Eastern countries” are fighting on the Armenian side.

On September 27, military escalation began on the contact line in Nagorno-Karabakh. During the first day of fighting, 31 servicemen (lists of names have been published) and two civilians were killed on the Armenian side.

Azerbaijan’s attacking forces occupied several strongholds on the Armenian side, some of which were recaptured by the Artsakh (Karabakh) defense army. The fighting lasted all night.
