Russian Orthodox Church representative: Black Lives Matter activists discredit themselves

05.08.2020, Moscow.

By burning the Bible the Black Lives Matter activists discredited their own movement, the Chairman of the Synodal Public Relations Department of the Patriarchate of Moscow Vladimir Legoyda said on August 4 on his Telegram channel.

“Insulting the religious beliefs of the majority of the country’s population (about 70% are Christian) for alleged struggle against racism is very inconsistent, and it first of all discredits the movement itself,” Legoyda said.

He noted that a potential dialogue can take place when activists hold peaceful rallies against racism in their country. However, as soon as they turn to violence, robbery, and destruction of symbols they do not like, the Black Lives Matter supporters “lose any moral right to campaign against injustice.”

Previously, activists of the USA anti-racism movement burnt tens of Bibles and a US flag in Portland protesting against the fact the Jesus Christ was white.
