Venezuelan and Cuban authorities condemn Mike Pompeo statements

30.04.2020, Caracas.

Venezuelan Foreign Ministers Jorge Arreaza and Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla condemned new US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo interventionist statements, Telesur reported on April 30.

The Venezuelan diplomat urged Pompeo to stop using the South American country “for hiding his shortcomings and failures,” referring to the failures of the US government in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister stressed that “neither economic conspiracies nor disinfectants are fighting against such a serious pandemic. The US Navy must monitor cases of infection and don’t risk its troops in fake operations to distract the Media“.

The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, stated that “Cuba’s solidarity even more demonstrates the aggressive policy of the United States“, a country that “deliberately deceives when it attacks Cuba’s international medical cooperation through lies and slander“.

He also noted that “true integration between the Latin America countries and the Caribbean is a prerequisite for sustainable development, food security and sovereignty, meeting the needs of our peoples“.

The Cuban diplomat reiterated his condemnation of the US strengthening embargo against his country and insisted that the US was “repeating shameful lies against international medical cooperation programmes“, being a threat to “the health of other peoples instead of joining forces“.

Earlier, Pompeo condemned the Cuban medical brigades that are working in several countries and join the fight against the pandemic and demonstrate the island’s solidarity with the affected in times of emergency.
