The head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin established the former name “city of Stalino” as a symbol of the city of Donetsk by the decree, published on the official website of the head of the republic on April 23.
“I hereby order to set the name ‘the city of Stalino’ as a symbol of the city of Donetsk to be used along with the name of the city of Donetsk during the republican and city events dedicated to the memorable dates in the history of the DPR and the city of Donetsk, associated with the Great Patriotic War,” reads the DPR head’s decree No. 111, 23.04.2020 “On the usage of the name of ‘the city of Stalino’”.
It is allowed to use the historical name of the city of Donetsk during the celebration of the Victory Day on May 9, the Day of Memory and Sorrow on June 22 and the day of the liberation of Donbass from the Nazis invaders on September 8.
The DPR Ministry of Culture was instructed to “organize republican events on the abovementioned days to promote the historical name ‘the city of Stalino’”.
