Russian Ministry of Defense: Western humanitarian aid to Syria is fake

04.03.2020, Moscow.

Syrians receive real humanitarian aid from the country’s legitimate government and the Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides, while the West only expresses false and cynical concern about this. The official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry Major General Igor Konashenkov stated this at a meeting with journalists on March 4.

According to Konashenkov, the matter concerns humanitarian aid to the Idlib de-escalation zone, which the Russian side and the official Syrian authorities provide “against the background of total cynicism and false concern by the West”.

“The Syrians aren’t even aware about the existence of their numerous pseudo-defenders in Europe and the United States and the abundant humanitarian aid allegedly that they have been sending for years”, the Defense Ministry spokesman said.

Konashenkov believes that the United States and Europe have not been interested in real humanitarian aid at least since 2018. It was then that the United Nations and the West informally welcomed the Russian-Turkish agreement on the Idlib de-escalation zone signed in Sochi. In fact, they did not even ask why Turkey was defiantly not fulfilling its obligations.

The General said that Russia ‘s questions about “who exactly was bringing humanitarian aid across the Turkish border and why almost all of it was delivered not to refugees, but to terrorists” have remained unanswered.

Although in words the West constantly says that it wants “to preserve the Sochi agreements at all costs.

According to the agreement signed in Sochi, the Turkish side was obliged to withdraw all terrorist groups from the Idlib de-escalation zone, leaving only its troops there.
