Kurginyan: There is no more Ukrainian people

01.10.2019, Moscow.

The leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan listed the reasons why Ukraine has to be considered an “extremely problematic state” during the Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov TV show at the Russian Channel 1 on September 29.

According to Kurginyan, Ukrainian politics after the Euromaidan are similar to the story of Taras Bulba [a historical novel by Nikolai Gogol, focusing on the theme of familial betrayal – translator’s note]: “Well, son, did your Yankees help you?” Not only did the Yankees not help, they have split amongst themselves, and now “it is not clear which Yankees to side with”, explained the political scientist.

Moreover, the nation of Ukraine will have to take responsibility for the blood shed in the Donbass region, stressed Kurginyan. “What did the Donbass residents die for?! They are gone, now. They are dead. Why did the woman have to lay there with her legs torn off by an explosion, while the Maidan supporters said terrible things about her? For what? … Will the nation not take any responsibility for the blood that was shed? Or, will it always keep saying that it was fighting, fighting, and fighting?” he added.

Furthermore, it is no longer clear which Ukrainian people can be the topic of discussion, said the expert. “A people exists while it has a history. A people is an actor … as long as it has a history. When you start distorting history the way they did, what people is there?!” emphasized Kurginyan.

In February 2014, the lawfully elected President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych was ousted as a result of an armed coup. Politicians supporting the nationalist forces in Ukraine, who glorify such figures as Ukrainian Nazi Collaborator Stepan Bandera, came to power.

As a result of Kiev’s radical right-wing policy, the collapse of Ukrainian statehood began in 2014: Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, and the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine held referendums and declared their independence from Kiev.
