Putin and Macron confirm commitment to Minsk agreements

The President of Russia Vladimir Putin and the President of France Emmanuel Macron discussed the Ukrainian domestic conflict on September 8, the Russian president’s press service reports.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the exchange of prisoners and detainees between Russia and Ukraine that took place on September 7.

The presidents of Russia and Ukraine reiterated their commitment to the Minsk agreements, and they stressed that the agreements have no alternatives for the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.

The second Minsk agreement was signed on February 11-12, 2015.

The key provisions of the agreement are ceasefire at the contact line, granting a special status the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), and amnesty for all combatants. However, Ukraine still refuses to fulfil these provisions.
