29.05.2019, Donetsk.

Almost 300 residents of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) apply for Russian citizenship daily, the Izvestiya newspaper reported on May 28.

According to the Migration Office, 2.5 thousand people have applied to passport offices over the three weeks since they started accepting applications (May 7).

According to the newspaper, some local residents arrive at the queue in the early hours to apply for a Russian passport. 32 passport offices and a migration office were opened to optimize the process.

On April 24, 2019, Russia simplified the procedure of applying for Russian citizenship for residents of a number of southeastern regions of Ukraine.

In particular, people with DPR or LPR passports who want to apply for the Russian document do not need to live in Russia for five years, pass a Russian language test, and give up their Ukrainian citizenship.
