10.05.2019, Moscow.

To celebrate 74th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War over 13.5 thousand military personnel and about 130 armored fighting vehicles of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation proceeded through Red Square in a ceremonial march in Moscow on May 9th.

Commander-in-Chief Land Forces, General Oleg Salyukov commanded the parade columns for the sixth time. He handed over control of the Parade to the Head of the Russian Defence Ministry Sergey Shoygu, who moved rode through Red Square for the first time on the domestically produced Aurus vehicle.

Together with veterans of the Great Patriotic War, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Council of Federation and State Duma Speakers Valentina Matvienko and Vyacheslav Volodin watched the Parade. Only one foreign leader, former President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev visited this solemn event.

Addressing the people, Putin stressed the great nature of the heroic deed of the Soviet people, who were able to break the Nazi enemy, who proclaimed the idea of fundamental inequality between the people and who had managed to subject multiple European nations up until 1941.

The Russian leader stressed that today, when “a number of countries deliberately falsify the events of the war and make out Nazi collaborators to be heroes,” it is important more than ever to fight for the truth about the real heroes’ feats.

The legendary T-34 tank went in the forefront of the parade armored column. Due to non-flying weather, the aerial part of the Parade was cancelled.
