Only Congress can authorize military intervention in Venezuela, US Senator Bernie Sanders reminded Donald Trump’s administration on May 2, TeleSUR reports.
“We must make sure the US does not get involved in yet another war and destabilize another region,” warned Sanders on his Twitter page in response to latest threats to Venezuela from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
The US government took an aggressive stance against the democratically elected government of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela and sided with the far right because of shared interests.
High-ranking government officials from the Trump administration have openly declared their support for the attempted coup d’état on Tuesday. At that point, the opposition used tanks and firearms on the main street in the capital.
The US government has confirmed that it is considering military intervention as one of the options to overthrow President Nicolas Maduro.
