Venezuelan police detains group of Colombian provocateurs

25.02.2019, Caracas.

The Venezuelan security services successfully detained a group of Colombian nationals suspected of involvement in the Saturday riots at the Colombian-Venezuelan border, RIA Novosti reports on February 25.

A Venezuelan police official informed the agency that the detainees were provocateurs. They were armed, and they fired at the Venezuelan policemen. The arrested Colombians have already given their testimonies. The police have learned from them about a place under the Simón Bolívar Bridge where weapons are hidden.

The political forces that oppose the legitimate Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro have made an attempt to import humanitarian aid from the Colombian territory provided by the USA and other states that support the opposition.

According to Maduro, Venezuela does not need the aid, and there are weapons hidden in the cargo to be used in an anti-government revolt. The borders were closed for the humanitarian aid. The trucks that had crossed the borders were burned. The people who were transporting the cargo were blocked by the Venezuelan security forces. About 300 people were injured in the riots. The USA has already threatened Maduro with “punishment” for human rights violations.
