Syrian air defenses block Israeli missile strike

22.01.2019, Damascus.

The Syrian Air Defense Forces (SyADF) intercepted the majority of Israeli missiles that attacked targets in Syria, the SANA news agency reports, citing a Syrian military source on January 21.

According to the source, Israel launched a missile attack from Lebanese airspace and from the Galilee region of Israel. Syrian air defenses shot down “dozens” of Israeli missiles.

In Damascus, explosions were heard from 2:10 AM to 3:00 AM Moscow Time.

During the missile attack, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) distributed a communiqué, which reported on the Israeli attack on the Iranian Al-Quds forces (special forces – Rossa Primavera note) on Syrian territory. Israel also warned the Syrian military in the message against retaliation on Israeli forces or Israeli territory.

After Israel’s attack on the Syrian Duvali airport on January 20, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel’s policy would always be aimed against Iranian efforts to make inroads in Syria.
