DPR halves homicide rate over year

The Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) halved the number of the murder cases in 2018, per the Republic’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (Russian: MVD), the Donetsk News Agency reported on January 3.

“In 2018, 30 criminal cases were opened under Article 106 (Homicide) of the DPR Criminal Code, which is 33 cases fewer than in 2017,” the ministry noted.

Also, the DPR MVD reported that these cases are solved at a high rate; of the 30 cases, only three remain unsolved. Also, in 2018, MVD servicemen solved 162 cases of aggravated assault. In total, 167 crimes of this kind were committed in the Republic.

The Republic’s law enforcement officials solved over 1.5 thousand serious and very serious crimes with over 2,000 cases reported, the statement says.

On February 9, 2018, the leader of the DPR Aleksandr Zakharchenko said that a number of persons were detained in the Republic, who were involved in the murder of Mikhail Tolstykh (call sign Givi). The DPR leader also noted that the same people who had set up the assassination of Arsen Pavlov (call sign Motorola) were also responsible for the assassination of Tolstykh.
