The deployment of a US armored division to Poland will escalate the military threat, the Belorussian Ambassador to Russia Igor Petrishenko said, RIA Novosti reported on July 3.
Previously, Poland proposed that the USA should establish a military base on its territory for permanent deployment. This is to take place within bilateral agreements outside of the NATO framework.
According to Petrishenko, such measures pose no direct threat to Belorussia. However, he stressed that the growing military force in the neighbor state has to be taken into account “in terms of national military development as well as in terms of military co-operation within the formats of the Union State and the Collective Security Treaty Organization.”
In 2016 and 2017 the USA had been consistently building up their military presence in Europe. In January 2017, a Polish Defense Ministry official reported that the equipment for an armored brigade and almost a thousand of US soldiers have arrived in Poland.
