On December 27 in Lugansk, the acting Head of the Lugansk People’s Republic Leonid Pasechnik signed a decree to pardon prisoners of war to be exchanged with the Ukrainian side, Lugansk Information Center reported.

“Today I signed a decree to pardon those who are to be exchanged today in Mayorsk. In turn, we are waiting for our compatriots to return, who have been freed after being held as POWs in Ukraine,” Pasechnik said.

He also stressed that the LPR is committed to fulfilling the Minsk agreements.

“I want to emphasize that our Republic has always been committed to the Minsk agreements; and that we are ready to fulfill all the necessary requirements to release those held as POWs both in Ukraine and on our territory,” the acting Head of the Lugansk Republic stressed.

Back on November 15 Vladimir Putin had a phone discussion with the leaders of the DPR and the LPR on the proposal of Ukraine’s Special Representative on Humanitarian Issues, Viktor Medvedchuk, about the exchange of POWs between the Donbass Republics and Kiev.

POWs held in Ukraine and the Donbass Republics arrived for exchange at the Mayorsk checkpoint yesterday. The exchange is to take place in the nearest time.
