Five terrorist field commanders killed in Syria

The military commanders of terrorist groups who attacked the Russian military forces were killed in Syria, said Major General Igor Konashenkov in a statement, Zvezda TV channel reports on September 27.

“After the terrorist attack on September 18 against the Russian military police in the Hama province, the entire multilevel intelligence system of the Russian Defense Ministry in Syria was utilized to search for and destroy the commanders of the attacking militants.

As a part of this operation, the place and date of the meeting attended by the prominent Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham terrorist group (Jabhat al-Nusra, organization banned in Russia) field commanders have been confirmed to be south of Idlib”, the Russian Defense Ministry Official Spokesman said.

The Major General said that as a result of a missile air strike five field commanders, 32 militants, an ammunition depot and also six trucks with large-caliber armaments were destroyed.

On September 19, 2017, at 8 a.m., Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group (organization banned in Russia) launched a large-scale offensive on the northern and north-eastern outskirts of Hama town, which is located in the Idlib de-escalation zone.

During the attack, terrorists used tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and massive artillery shelling. Being besieged, Russian servicemen and military squad members of the Muali tribe, in total 29 men, stood against terrorists. They were fighting against the terrorists for several hours.

In the course of the combat, three Russian servicemen were wounded. All servicemen, who participated in the operation, were honored with an award.
