In the course of the past day Ukrainian militants shelled the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) almost 300 shells, Eduard Basurin, the DPR Forces Deputy Commander, said on August 22, RIA Novosti News Agency reported.
“The hostile forces have used the artillery, tanks and mortars to fire at the Donetsk direction. Nine localities and the surrounding areas were hit with 31 122 mm mortar shells, four tank shells, 133 120 mm mortar shells, and 52 82 mm mortar shells”, Basurin informed.
The conflicting parties have agreed on a truce in Donbass from June 24 to August 31, in order to allow for harvesting. But the cease-fire agreement is constantly violated, and not only shelling, but also attacks are taking place. For example, on June 20 the Ukrainian army attempted to break through the defense line of the DPR army in the north of Donetsk near the village of Zhabunki.
Even the presence of OSCE, which does not respond to the constant shelling, does not prevent the Ukrainian army from firing at the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic. In this regard, on several occasions the DPR leadership has already made their assertion that the OSCE mission does not present the situation in the Donbass objectively.
