American volunteer and war correspondent Russell Bentley, also known as “Texas”, has become a citizen of Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), a Rossa Primavera News Agency correspondent reports from the scene on April 13.

“Texas” said he was proud to receive a DPR passport. He added that the passport is a symbol of the anti-fascist resistance. The people of Donbass granted him citizenship, and he will give them his life, his blood, and his every effort in return.

The passport was issued by the migration service of the DPR Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Petrovsky district of Donetsk. According to “Texas”, he received the document via ordinary procedure; two months had passed since he applied for citizenship.

The DPR authorities decided to issue their own passports in early 2016. On March 18, 2017, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree “On Recognition in the Russian Federation of Documents and Vehicle Registration Plates Issued to Ukrainian Citizens and Stateless Persons Permanently Residing in Certain Districts of Ukraine’s Donetsk and Lugansk Regions. ” The Republic’s documents are valid in Russia, permitting entrance to Russian territory without obtaining a visa.

In March, 2017, the DPR leader Aleksandr Zakharchenko said that 1.2 million people had already applied for DPR citizenship.
