Ukraine starts missile-firing drills near Crimea, foreign passenger planes avoid the area

Foreign passenger planes started avoiding the skies in the area over the Black Sea west of Crimea, which was declared the zone of missile-firing drills of Armed Forces of Ukraine, Interfax news agency reports citing the data of western aviation sites.

As of 08:00 Berlin time Israeli El Al company’s passenger plane en-route from Tel Aviv to Kiev and Turkish Airlines plane en-route from Istanbul to Moscow were registered flying along the western border of the closed air space over the Black Sea south of Odessa.

On Thursday missile-firing drills started in Kherson region of Ukraine. The head of the press-center of Ukrainian “South” Air Command Vladimir Kryzhanovsky said on air of “112 Ukraine” TV channel: “Everything is going according to plan. There is no reaction from Russian Federation. Ukrainian military are prepared for any turn of events.”

He informed that the crews of military transport airplanes, divisions of surface-to-air missiles, signal troops and UAV aviation participate in the drills. Long-range surface-to-air S-300 missile systems will be involved in the drills.
