IMF recognizes the official status of Ukrainian debt to Russia

17.12.2015, Washington.

On December 17, 2015, IMF executive board recognized the $3 billion debt of Ukraine to Russia as official.

In December 2013 Russia loaned $3 billion dollars to Ukraine which Kiev wasn’t able to repay. Vladimir Putin proposed to restructure the debt if U.S., EU or another large financial regulator would guarantee that Kiev will repay the debt, however, nobody considered it possible to make such guarantees.

If Yatsenyuk’s government doesn’t pay the debt by December 20, Russia will be able to file a lawsuit to an international court.
