Poverty, war, corruption. Ukrainians chose main symbols of the country

The Ukrainian Institute of World Politics (a pro-western organization) has conducted a social research. Citizens of the country were offered to choose out of a dozen answers to the question “What is their country associated with first and foremost?” The results speak for themselves. “Corrupted, ineffective authorities” won the first place. The second place went to “war, conflict, ruination, disaster”. The third place went to a neutral “homeland” answer. Almost as much responses percentage-wise has earned the fourth answer: “poverty, unemployment”. All answers with a positive connotation – from “independence and love of freedom” to “European state” – were much lower.

DPR authorities are counting on a peaceful resolution to the conflict

Donetsk People’s Republic President Aleksandr Zakharchenko: “A peaceful scenario is preferred, a political scenario of conflict resolution. But if the citizens of Donetsk People’s Republic will have to defend their lives against the punitive forces, we will defend it. If we will have to return the withdrawn military hardware back to the contact line – we will. We didn’t start this war, but we are capable of ending it.”

Former Kiev junta's serviceman calls upon fellow military servicemen to side with LPR

Junta’s border guard sergeant Sergey Sergeev, who had voluntarily sided with LPR, has told that people from Donbass who serve in junta’s army and other defense and law enforcement agencies are treated with bias. Specifically, they are being accused of “separatism.” The civilian population is also treated negatively and violently.

“Same with the civilians. Take the region where I used to serve, Stanichno-Lugansky – physical force is being used there as well. And if something goes wrong, anybody can disappear.”
