War correspondent: Terrorists intensify shelling of de-escalation zone in Syria

21.07.2021, Idlib.

Militants intensified shelling of frontline areas of the Idlib de-escalation zone, Russian military correspondent in Syria Oleg Blokhin wrote on his Telegram channel on July 20.

Over the past few days, militants of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham militant group (organization banned in Russia) intensified shelling in the Idlib de-escalation zone. According to a military correspondent, Syrian army positions and frontline villages and towns came under fire.

In particular, the terrorists shelled Jurin and Dahr al-Kabir villages. Civilians in Jurin were wounded, including children, and a government soldier was wounded in Dahr al-Kabir.

The shelling continued from the evening of July 19 through the late night of July 20. “The purpose of such shelling could presumably be to unleash large-scale hostilities in the region,” Blokhin wrote.

Turkey is not fulfilling its commitments to create a de-escalation zone in Idlib and to withdraw militants from the line of contact, the military correspondent noted. Turkey “fully covers and supports the militants” of the illegal armed groups, Blokhin added.

On July 18, militants shelled the city of Aleppo in Syria. According to the city police, there were no casualties, the shells penetrated the roofs of several houses.
