Two DPR servicemen killed in south of Republic by Ukrainian mortar shells

Two servicemen of the People’s Militia of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) were fatally wounded with fragments during shelling at the southern sector of the front, the DPR representative at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Ceasefire (JCCCC) reported on December 18.

According to the official, the servicemen from the 36th Brigade of the Ukrainian navy shelled the positions of the People’s Militia at the village of Leninskoye at 08:50 (Moscow time zone) firing 10 shells from 120-mm mortars from the village of Vodyanoye. The shells exploded at the positions of the PM servicemen inflicting fatal wounds to two of them.

JCCCC observers reported that at 08:40 (Moscow time zone) the servicemen from the 36th Brigade opened fire against the village of Dzerzhinskoye from the village of Lebedinskoye firing 6 shells from a 120-mm mortar.

“The situation at the southern direction remains tense. The Ukrainian armed groups regularly open fire against the DPR PM positions using weapons prohibited by the Minsk agreements,” the official stressed.

On December 4, two People’s Militia servicemen were killed at their position near the village of Leninskoye by Ukrainian shelling with 120-mm mortars from the village of Vodyanoye.

On December 17, the Ukrainian military shelled the Republic’s territory five times using 120-mm mortars and grenade launchers, damaging the villages of Leninskoye, Verkhnetoretskoye, Yakovlevka, and Donetsk.

On December 16, the last in 2020 round of talks of the Trilateral Contact Group ended. According to the DPR and LPR representatives, the talks were inconclusive. The Ukrainian delegation insisted that the Minsk agreements should be changed on Ukrainian conditions, and it blamed Russia for ruining the talks.
