The Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stated that the members of the White Helmets organization should be condemned and tried in Syria, RIA Novosti informs on October 8.
“They are criminals. I don’t speak about other things. Before they became the White Helmets, they were ‘al-Nusra’ [organization banned in Russia – Rossa Primavera News Agency]. There are video recordings and photos of these criminals. They have to be tried in Syria,” said Assad.
The Syrian leader noted that the White Helmets are only a tool in the hands of foreign authorities.
“When a crime is committed, one does not try a knife or other instrument, but a criminal <…> the authorities of the United Kingdom created them, the USA and, of course, France and other Western countries, supported them but they were used directly by Turkey. All these regimes are the real parents of the White Helmets, so they should be brought to justice first of all,” the president stressed.
In 2018, the White Helmets’ staged video about the alleged use of chemical weapons by Syrian troops became the reason for the US missile strike against Syria.
After the Russian and Syrian sides presented incontrovertible evidence that the chemical attack was not carried out and the video was fabricated, none of those who accused Russia and Syria of the attack offered their apologies.
