DPR reports Ukrainian military laying mines in Donbass

03.08.2020, Donetsk.

The Ukrainian army has started to strengthen their positions and lay mines near Donbass towns and villages, the Deputy Director of the People’s Militia of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic Eduard Basurin said at a meeting with journalists on August 3.

According to Basurin, the Ukrainian army uses the ceasefire agreements “to strengthen the engineer aspect of their positions.”

For example, near the village of Pishchevik and the settlement of Shuma controlled by Kiev they “upgrade their positions” and lay mines in the adjacent territories.

Also, engineering works are underway near the settlements of Opytnoye, Novotroitskoye, Starognatovka.

Basurin also noted that the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Ceasefire “in the framework of the coordination mechanism” notified Kiev about these activities in order to avoid provocations.

Additional ceasefire measures became effective from July 27 in Donbass, which completely bans opening fire, deploying weapons near towns and villages, and subversive operations. Engineering reinforcement of positions is also banned. Violations are subject to disciplinary responsibility.
