Symbol of Victory over fascism flown in the sky over San Diego

The St. George’s ribbon was unfurled from an airplane in the sky over the American city of San Diego in California in honor of the Victory over fascism. Press service of Embassy of the Russian Federation to the United States posted a video of this event on its social network page on May 7.

The communication states that the action is timed to “the 75th anniversary of the victory In the Great Patriotic War and World War II.” The “Russian Youth of America” society organized flights with the symbol of Victory in the skies above major U.S. cities.  Earlier, people in the states of Illinois and Texas could see the flying two-color Guards Ribbon in the skies over Chicago and Dallas. According to the idea of the organizers, on Victory Day, May 9, New York City will take up the holiday baton.

The “Russian Youth of America” society has held the St. George’s ribbon campaign since 2011. In 2019 activists handed out tens of thousands of St. George’s ribbons and explanatory brochures in 23 U.S. cities. As noted by the participants, not only compatriots, but also  English-speaking Americans eagerly took these ribbons, and they were interested in learning the role of the Soviet Union in the Victory over fascism in World War II.
