Donetsk Museum of Art presented exhibition of painting masterpieces for City Day

Painting masterpieces, the works of Aivazovsky, Shishkin, and Serebryakova, have been exhibited in the Republican Donetsk Museum of Art. The exhibition was opened on August 25th. It is dedicated to the Day of Donetsk city – August 27.

Dozens of admirers of Russian art saw the paintings of the world-famous painters in the early hours of exhibition. Due to the war in Donbass, the paintings were kept in the storage facilities of the museum, the Deputy Director of the museum Marina Tretyakova noted.

Ivan Shishkin’s, Ivan Aivazovsky’s, and Zinaida Serebryakova’s paintings were the first ones, which have been extracted from the storerooms and exhibited today. A total of 13 works are included in the exhibition. And each of the master’s work is the gem of the museum’s collection,” she said.

According to the museum staff, many of the existing paintings were bought from the heirs of the painters and received from the private collections in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Tretyakov Gallery and State Russian Museum provided significant assistance in this process.

The opening of the exhibition ‘Gift to the City’ is an important event in the cultural life of Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR),” the Acting Minister of Culture of DPR Mikhail Zheltyakov said by opening the coming creative season of the Republican Donetsk Museum of Art.

The paintings will be exhibited until the end of the year. And at the same time, the authors’ and curatorial tours, lectures about the great artists, creative meetings with the masters of painting, as well as the activities for children and parents will be organized for the art lovers. In the long term, the museum management plans to renew the permanent exhibition of works by famous artists.
