Kurginyan explains the logic behind Iran’s response to US aggression

Iran has delivered an “asymmetrical response” to US military aggression, thereby demonstrating both military-strategic wisdom and national unity, philosopher, political scientist, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on April 17 during the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.

In the conflict between the United States and Iran, what is at stake is not military might, but rather the human factor – that is the population’s readiness to make sacrifices combined with the system of governance and technical capabilities, the political scientist noted.

According to him, throughout this conflict, Iran has demonstrated – first and foremost – an extraordinary military-strategic wisdom that was entirely unexpected. Kurginyan clarified that he was referring to Iran’s move to assert control over the Strait of Hormuz, as well as its strikes against the US facilities located in the Persian Gulf states – facilities which, he argued, “constitute the Achilles’ heel of the United States itself, given the colossal sums of money they pour into that region.”

“First of all, [Iran] understood that it would be unable to reach across the distance to strike at all those aircraft carriers stationed in the United States. <…> But locally – in this region – they are able to reach them,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement clarified.

“Secondly, [Iran] understands that the primary objective was to throw the entire global system of logistics, energy supplies, and all other vital flows into utter chaos; and that the moment this system is thrown into disarray, it has already won. If it can exert control over that system, then it has already won,” the political scientist added.

Iran demonstrated a non-trivial approach in its actions – one that could be described as a classic “asymmetric response”, Sergey Kurginyan noted. He explained that, in the case of a symmetric response, Iran would have been expected to strike the United States in response to the attack. However, something quite different occurred.

“Instead, the following occured: the US has attacked Iran, but Iran has set in motion a global process – a ‘domino effect,’ so to speak – that will strike back at these United States from the flank, like a boomerang, and not only at the US,” he clarified.

At the same time, Sergey Kurginyan drew attention to the fact that, beyond its military-strategic wisdom, Iran demonstrated the unity of its people. He emphasized that “the population of this country with its great Persian tradition and immense self-respect proved to be far more consolidated than anyone had anticipated.”
