Is Caracas a fortress whose door was opened by donkey loaded with gold?

The absence of casualties among US special forces that carried out the seizure of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, as well as the brevity and apparent success of the operation, give grounds to suspect that the United States may have managed to reach an agreement with Venezuela’s military and political elites to surrender Maduro, Rossa Primavera News Agency Latin America Desk wrote.

On the night of January 3, the United States conducted a military operation against Venezuela. Missile strikes were launched against military and civilian targets in the area of Caracas. US President Donald Trump stated that as a result of the operation, President Maduro and his wife were captured and flown out of the country.

According to US media reports, there were no casualties among US special forces. According to anonymous sources, the operation was carried out by Delta Force, the US Army’s elite special operations force. Videos are circulating on social media showing US helicopters flying calmly over Caracas.

Maduro himself has not yet been shown by the US side; however, Venezuela has effectively acknowledged his capture. Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez stated on state television that she demands proof from the United States that Maduro and his wife are alive.

It should be noted that the United States had demonstratively been amassing military forces near Venezuela’s borders for several months, so the attack itself was not unexpected for the Venezuelan army and security services. Such a lightning-fast and successful operation to capture the country’s leader under these conditions can only indicate that an internal betrayal took place, the details of which are still unknown.

Having assembled such a large armed fist, Trump could not simply withdraw it without results; he needed a demonstrative victory. It can be assumed that Venezuelan elites reached an agreement with the United States in exchange for handing over Maduro, under which Washington would refrain from conducting a large-scale military operation.
