Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman urges German chancellor candidate to issue ultimatums to his wife, not Russia

The candidate for the German Chancellor from the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Friedrich Merz, should be issuing ultimatums to his wife rather than Russia, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated. Izvestia wrote on October 17.

She was responding to the German politician’s promise that if he wins the election, he will issue an ultimatum to Russia within the first 24 hours, demanding that Russia cease attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure. Merz also threatened that if the demand were not met, he would provide the Ukrainian armed units with German Taurus missiles and lift restrictions on their use.

“If they want an end to the hostilities, they should stop supplying weapons to the terrorist Kiev regime. And let him issue an ultimatum to his wife,” Zakharova commented on Merz’s words.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has repeatedly stated that he would not allow the transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine. He has also ruled out permission for the use of German weapons for strikes deep into Russian territory, emphasizing that Berlin is against escalating the conflict into a global war.
