The Netherlands prepares six F-16 fighter jets for delivery to Ukraine, the head of the kingdom’s defense ministry Kajsa Ollongren wrote on X on February 5.
The head of the Ministry also emphasized that six fighter jets are being transferred to Ukraine additionally. “Thus, a total of 24 fighter jets will be delivered, as previously promised,” she specified.
According to the Dutch Ministry of Defense, these aircraft were previously intended for sale to Draken International, but the parties could not agree on the terms of the deal.
Currently, the Netherlands has 42 F-16 aircraft, which have been replaced by more modern F-35s. Earlier, the Dutch authorities said that they intended to transfer up to 24 fighter jets to Ukraine, while the remaining 18 would be used for pilot training.
The Netherlands, Denmark and several other Western countries are currently training Ukrainian pilots and plan to transfer F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
