Units of the Ukrainian armed forces are being defeated in armed clashes near Avdeevka in the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Director of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry Kirill Budanov said on January 30 on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel Rada.
Budanov said that despite all the bravado of the Kiev authorities, the Ukrainian armed units are forced to switch to a defense-in-depth because, he admitted, “unfortunately for Ukraine, the Russian armed forces are still making a certain advance in the fields, and near Avdeevka that is what happened.”
According to Budanov, there is no talk of any offensive by Kiev’s militants anymore, and all of Kiev’s thoughts are currently focused on how to strengthen its defensive line. “Large sums of money are being allocated from the budget for this purpose,” Budanov said.
Earlier, the Russian army managed to recapture the large fortification Tsarskaya Okhota from Kiev’s miliants in the battles near Avdeevka, which had remained impregnable since 2014. Avdeevka turned into a second Artyomovsk (Bakhmut) for the Ukrainian armed units.
