“Zangezur corridor” may pass not only through Armenia but also through Iran, Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu said on October 2 on air of Turkish A haber TV.
According to him, during the Turkish President’s visit to Nakhchivan enclave of Azerbaijan the parties discussed the issue of creating “Zangezur corridor”, which is supposed to pass through the territory of Armenia. It is planned to build a highway and railroad from Turkey through Nakhichevan to Baku.
Uraloglu said that “Zangezur corridor” will become an important crossroads on the way both to the Turkic world and in the direction of Beijing. According to him, there is an option to conduct the route through the territory of Iran.
“Negotiations are underway with Armenia. Right – the road through Armenia, if it does not work out, we will make this corridor through Iran. President Erdogan said that it is possible with Iran, there are relevant negotiations,” the Turkish minister said.
Tehran has not yet confirmed the possibility of laying a transportation route from Azerbaijan to Turkey through its territory.
