Kurginyan: Russia must recognize the trauma of defeat in the Cold War

Russia has to recognize the trauma of defeat in the Cold War and start the necessary rehabilitation, philosopher, political scientist, leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergei Kurginyan said on July 25 in a new issue of his author’s program Destiny.

Kurginyan noted that all of Russia’s opponents quite objectively call the disintegration of the Soviet Union a defeat in the Cold War. According to him, as a result of the crushing defeat, historical Russia lost huge territories, but not only them.

“Can we avoid calling what has happened a ‘defeat in the Cold War’? No, we can’t! It is clearly a defeat, it is obvious,” Kurginyan said.

The political scientist emphasized that the military defeat also causes the trauma of defeat. He cited the example of the US defeat in the Vietnam War. The so-called “Vietnam syndrome” emerged in the United States then.

Kurginyan noted that the US defeat in the Vietnam War was orders of magnitude smaller in its consequences than the Soviet defeat in the Cold War. Despite that, the Americans recognized the Vietnam syndrome as a result of the defeat, as an inevitability of the trauma of defeat, and began to overcome it. The political scientist stressed that the US implemented a program for rehabilitation from the Vietnam syndrome, implementing relevant national and other programs.

“Why do we, if we recognize that this defeat [the defeat of the USSR in the Cold War – Rossa Primavera News Agency] is immeasurably greater, do not carry out rehabilitation, do not analyze the types of trauma? Our trauma!” Kurginyan stated.
