NATO must increase its support for Kiev, and Ukraine should join NATO, stated the new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on October 1 at a meeting of the North Atlantic Council at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
“My next priority is to increase aid to Ukraine and bring it closer to NATO,” Rutte said.
He emphasized that achieving stability in Europe is impossible without a strong and independent Ukraine. The alliance must fulfill the aid package it promised at the summit in Washington.
Rutte reminded that this includes establishing command, providing financial assistance, and ensuring Ukraine’s irreversible membership in NATO. He affirmed that Ukraine’s place is in the North Atlantic Alliance.
In the future, NATO must also continue to assist Kiev, stressed the new Secretary General.
