The West is dissatisfied with Austria’s actions with respect to sanctions against Russia. Opinion

21.07.2023, Vienna.

Austria is not helping Kiev much. On the contrary, it is developing trade relations with Moscow, and the West increasingly dislikes this, the German newspaper Merkur wrote on July 20.

First of all, sales of products and chemicals increased. In addition, the volume of Russian gas imported into the country has returned to the levels recorded before the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine.

At the same time, Austrian Raiffeisen Bank International earned half of its money in Russia in 2022. Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer explains his position by the fact that his country is not a member of NATO and adheres to neutrality.

At the same time, he is not against joining the European Sky Shield air and missile defense system. And this “tortuous”, “situation-elastic” behavior of the Alpine country causes criticism and dissatisfaction in the West, the publication writes.
