The Russian army launched a counterattack on the Avdeevka direction, Denis Pushilin, the acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, said on the air of Solovyov Live on July 12.
“At several sections of the front, the army launched a counterattack, it is visible on the Avdeevka direction,” Pushilin said. At the same time, on the Ugledarsk direction, Russian troops firmly held their positions and repelled attacks of the Ukrainian armed units.
On February 24, 2022 Russian President Vladimir Putin in response to the ongoing shelling of the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and at the request of the leaders of these republics, announced the start of a special military operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine.
From September 23 to 27, 2022, referendums on joining the Russian Federation were held in both republics of Donbass, as well as in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. An overwhelming number of those who took part in the voting were in favor of joining Russia.
