Russian units took the Stupki district in the north of Artemovsk (Bakhmut) under their control, RIA Novosti reported on February 27.

The Russian military also entered Ilyinovka.

Russian artillery reportedly hit Ukrainian reserves and surviving units 15 kilometers from Artemovsk (Bakhmut) near Bogdanovka and Grigorovka.

At the same time, adviser to the acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Yan Gagin said that Russian units had established control over all roads to Artemovsk (Bakhmut), calling the situation a “classic operational encirclement.”

In 2016 Ukrainian authorities renamed the city of Artemovsk into Bakhmut. It is an important transport hub for the DPR.
