Russia reduces the level of diplomatic relations with Estonia

23.01.2023, Moscow

The Russian Foreign Ministry has decided to lower the level of mutual diplomatic relations with Estonia, the ministry’s press service announced on January 23.

The level of relations will be lowered to the level of the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim.

The action was taken in response to Estonia’s “new unfriendly step” which radically reduced the size of the Russian embassy in Tallinn. By doing this, Estonia confirmed its “policy of breaking off relations” with Russia.

Estonian Ambassador Margus Laidre was summoned to the Foreign Ministry. He was told he had until February 7 to leave Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry put all responsibility on Estonian authorities and stressed that it would continue to “respond to Estonia’s hostile steps.
