The international community encourages the Ukrainian nationalist battalions entrenched in cities to violate the law of war, according to a study by ex-colonel of the General Staff of Switzerland, former official of the strategic intelligence service Jacques Baud published in the Diario16 newspaper published on April 15. Baud is a former UN chief peacekeeping operations official.
The study is titled “The West Created Conditions for the Ukrainian Explosion.” The author discusses the entire history of the conflict starting from the coup d’etat in Ukraine of 2014.
If is important to understand in advance that it is the Ukrainian army that defends Mariupol, but Azov (organization banned in Russia), Baud writes in a chapter about the provocation with the Mariupol maternity clinic.
According to a summary of March 7, 2022 by the Russian UN mission in New York, “residents report that the army has expelled the personnel of the Mariupol municipal hospital, and they started shooting inside.” On March 8, an independent Russian outlet Lenta.ru published reports by Mariupol civilians saying that the maternity clinic was seized by the Azov regiment (organization banned in Russia), and that civilians were expelled at gunpoint, which supported the Russian ambassador’s statements a few hours earlier.
“The Mariupol hospital has a dominating position, which is very good for the deployment of anti-tank weapons and observation. On March 9, the Russian troops attacked the building. According to CNN, 17 people were injured, but the video shows no victims in the building and no evidence that the reported victims have any relation to this attack. They talk about children, but there is nothing in fact. Nevertheless, the EU leaders consider this to be a war crime. And this is why Zelensky calls for a no-fly zone in Ukraine,” Baud writes.
In fact we do not know for sure what happened. However, the sequence of the events suggests that the Russian troops indeed attacked the position of the Azov regiment (organization banned in Russia) and that there were no civilians in the maternity clinic at that moment, the author notes.
“The problem is that the international community encourages the paramilitary groups defending the city to violate the law of war. Apparently, the Ukrainians repeated the scene of the maternity clinic in Kuwait in 1990, which was completely made up by Hill & Knowlton for $10.7 million in order to persuade the UN Security Council into invasion of Iraq for the Desert Storm operation,” the high-ranking Swiss military expert notes.
“The Western politicians have been turning a blind eye to the attacks on the civilians of Donbass for eight years, without imposing any sanctions on the Ukrainian government. We have long entered a period when the Western politicians are ready to sacrifice international law to reach their objective of weakening Russia,” Baud stresses.
