The moment the US begins to decline will be dangerous for all countries, including Russia, as the world will become even more unstable; therefore, any sense of happiness or a justified sigh of relief must be coupled with the utmost internal mobilization, political scientist, philosopher, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan stated on August 21 during the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio.
On the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio, aired on August 21, 2026, host Anna Shafran and political scientist, theater director, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan discussed the potential consequences of the changing situation in the Asia-Pacific region.
Discussing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s trip to the Pacific Fleet exercises and his visit to Iturup Island, which reaffirmed Russian sovereignty over the Kuril Islands, the host noted that the Far East is “transforming, whether gradually or rapidly, from a rear area into a frontline.”
Anna Shafran asked the leader of the Essence of Time movement about the geopolitical arena where events are unfolding, pointing to Tokyo’s sharp and nervous reaction to the Russian President’s visit to the Kuril Islands, framing it as a primary flashpoint.
“Will the Asia-Pacific region or Ukraine become the stage where the battle for the future new world order take place? Where will the fate of the declining hegemon [the US] on one side, and a rising China on the other, be decided?” she asked.
Responding to the host’s questions, Sergey Kurginyan highlighted three key points that must be considered when examining the standoff between China and the United States.
The first point the political scientist raised was the possibility of a prolonged decline for the United States: “The hegemon is indeed declining, but that fall could last quite a long time.” Secondly, in the philosopher’s view, “the moment the US decline begins will be the most dangerous for all countries, including Russia.”
The analyst is convinced: “The world will become even more unstable at that moment, as there are forces prepared to act in response to such a situation; therefore, any sense of good fortune or justified relief must be coupled with the utmost internal mobilization.”
The leader of the Essence of Time movement recalled that the neo-Nazis, who had taken Ukraine under their control, referred to the Soviet Union and the United States in the immediate aftermath of their 1945 defeat as “Yalta predators,” the “Yalta conspiracy,” and the “ugly Yalta deal.”
Thus, according to the political scientist, if the United States were “even slightly smarter, they probably wouldn’t act as the US does.”
“If the US were smarter, they would realize that there is a third power to which the United States is the second target, after the USSR. They would understand that the plan was to first finish off the USSR with the help of the US, and only then take down the United States itself,” the philosopher concluded.
Sergey Kurginyan emphasized that his conclusions are not “mere abstract speculations detached from reality,” but the result of a decade of studying documents related to the issue.
