People will always foster a hope for immortality, but today there is a threat that it will be achieved through merging Man with the machine or become only available for the chosen ones, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on August 7 on the Conversation with a Sage program on Radio Zvezda.
The philosopher reminded the great ideas of ascension of Man described in the works by Russian thinkers Nikolay Fyodorov, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, Vladimir Vernadsky etc.
Young Tsiolkovsky was deeply impressed by Fyodorov’s project of “resurrection of the fathers,” which determined his further activities to a major extent. Tsiolkovsky designed rockets with the idea in mind that a resurrected humanity could find an accommodation in space.
“If this salvation is based on the ascension of Man, it can combine all Fyodorov’s Russian dreams followed by Tsiolkovsky etc., and further by Teilhard de Chardin and even Vernadsky with his noosphere theory, with what will always remain superior for billions of believers. It is called ascension of Man,” Kurginyan noted.
Such an ascension can be driven directly by the supreme divine power. Kurginyan reminded that Fyodorov and others believed that at certain stage the God delegated the right to ascension to Man telling him, “Now ascend on you own, and I will watch.”
However, it becomes absolutely different when Man is given up for lost, and his development is achieved through his merging with the machine the way the technocrats form the Silicon Valley are trying to do.
“If this ascension becomes a surrender of Man to technology, in particular the machine, and he seeks to merge himself with the machine instead of ascending with the help of the machine, then it is a terrible transformation. A terrible one!” the philosopher stressed.
Kurginyan quoted a phrase by Andrey Voznesensky, “Any progress is reactionary if Man is ruined.”
“This is exactly the surrender to the machine. This is a transformation of Man into machine with all the inevitable terrible consequences,” the political scientist added, and he stressed that this is not a trans-humanism, but it is a technological dehumanization.
Another dangerous trend is the division of humanity into those who can afford a longer life and the rest of the people. This means that immortality can be something that is only available to the chosen ones.
“Is it for the chosen ones or for everyone? Is this a way for super-privileged classes to achieve immortality or is this for humanity as a whole? Will everyone or only the chosen ones ascend? According to the gnostics, there are pneumatics, i.e. the chosen ones, the genuine humans, who can ascend. There are psychics, i.e. semi-humans. And there are hylics, who are not humans at all, but animals. Is this the discrimination we are talking about? Or is it about the unity of mankind?”
Kurginyan reminds: as soon as big money is involved, it becomes clear that humanity will be dramatically divided into castes and strata, and the unity of mankind will be over.
