The concept of modern warfare is gradually changing in a sense that it does not require large numbers of personnel, making the need for a technological breakthrough especially urgent, philosopher, political scientist, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan stated on July 24 during the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio.
The program’s host Anna Shafran raised the issue of the new type of warfare Russia is facing today.
Commenting on the subject, the political scientist outlined the situation regarding drones. He noted that, despite the technical evolution of UAVs and their capacity to carry heavy payloads, the current reality is such that “by and large, these drones resemble an aircraft developed in a club for glider enthusiasts, armed with F-1 grenades”. However, he emphasized that this is only the case for now.
“The future, however, lies in combat conducted by numerous, highly sophisticated unmanned systems: on land, underwater, at sea, and in the air. This means that human personnel, for example divisions, are not necessarily required for this kind of war. It is a conflict waged between technical devices controlled by humans operating deep behind the frontline,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement explained.
In this context, Sergey Kurginyan noted that for the West, battlefield casualties are a highly sensitive issue. Western society is unprepared for such losses; “it is already intolerable for the capricious United States, and even more so for Europe.” On the other hand, “manufacturing hardware, organizing the network and providing satellite support is something they can do with ease!”
The political scientist explained that as warfare shifts to a format where human presence is less critical, the attacks against Russia will come not from NATO armies, but from NATO drones, systems that within five years will be far more advanced than those in use today.
“And this brings us to the issue of a technological breakthrough, because everything associated with it was, to a significant extent, either downplayed or just scrapped,” he clarified.
At the same time, Kurginyan is wondering if Russia is approaching this technological breakthrough in a systematic way; how to launch it quickly; how to steer the mindset of technocratic groups in a patriotic direction, and so on.
The political analyst also noted that these issues are important not only for Russia but also the United States and the entire world.
“Underwater warfare involving unmanned systems has put the Russian fleet, the US Navy, everyone – in a difficult situation. This is a global trend that the Ukrainians, led by Mr. Fyodorov and his team, have developed quite effectively. They are expanding their capabilities in this area with their Western support, who, and I stress this again, will not send their troops into to the fight, but will supply hardware in exchange for money,” he explained.
