A senior Pentagon official made a statement that effectively confirms that the strike on a girls’ school in the Iranian city of Minab was carried out based on decision of so-called artificial intelligence (AI), Rossa Primavera News Agency‘s IT Desk notes.
On June 15, the US Department of Justice submitted the filing that was intended to defend billionaire Elon Musk’s company xAI, which developed the AI model Grok, in a court fight over power generation equipment at xAI data centers. The US government submitted sworn testimony of the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Officer Cameron Stanley, who stated that this tool allowed US forces to carry out more than 2,000 strikes on 2,000 targets within 96 hours during the war with Iran.
Moreover, the lawsuit does not concern the issue that the use of AI could have led to war crimes. The dispute is about xAI installing gas turbines without the necessary environmental permits. The Pentagon representative emphasized the importance of the technology, noting that the model offers functions absent from any other advanced AI model.
Stanley, while praising the technology that seriously affects the decision where to strike, inadvertently also revealed who is behind the strike on the school, which killed 175 people, of whom 168 were girls. US Central Command had previously reported that in the first four days of the war with Iran, more than 2,000 strikes were carried out using 2,000 precision-guided munitions.
But the 96 hours Stanley spoke of is exactly four days. The strike on the school in Minab was carried out on the first day of the war, February 28. But in the US, they are concerned about how environmentally friendly the use of AI is, rather than the crimes committed by the US Armed Forces after entrusting itself to Musk’s bot.
