Baltic states are trying to shift NATO’s focus to Kaliningrad

20.05.2026, Vilnius.

By calling on NATO to capture Kaliningrad, the authorities of the Baltic countries are trying in every way to shift the hot phase of the conflict between Russia and the West to a Russian region, in order to avoid such a shift to their own territory, while not abandoning their participation in the aggression, Rossa Primavera News Agency Europe Desk notes.

The head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, Kęstutis Budrys, in an interview with the Swiss publication Neue Zürcher Zeitung, called on NATO to attack Kaliningrad, “We must show the Russians that we can penetrate the small fortress they have built in Kaliningrad. NATO has the necessary means to destroy Russian air defense bases and missile bases there.”

Such rhetoric from the Baltic authorities has long become commonplace and can no longer surprise anyone in Russia. But behind this latest outburst of seemingly aggressive and belligerent emotions from the Lithuanian politician lies an attempt to shift the vector of NATO aggression to another Russian region due to fear of the outbreak of hostilities directly on their own territory.

With the increasing presence of Ukrainian drones in the Baltic sky, the authorities of the three countries understand that their territories are first in line to become a hotbed of military confrontation between the West-backed Kiev regime and Russia.

The head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky also intensifies tension by his statements about an alleged Russian attack on the Baltic states in the near future, behind which are Ukraine’s attempts to draw as many European countries as possible into the conflict.

That is precisely why the Baltic authorities are frantically looking for another theater of military operations, closer to themselves, but on Russian territory, where the Balts can participate as part of allied NATO troops, just as, in essence, they are already fully active in Ukraine.
