The US-Israeli aggression against Iran led to the radicalization of power in the Islamic Republic and changed the balance of power in the Middle East, philosopher, political scientist, and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on March 20 on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.
The analyst emphasized that even a significant weakening of Iran’s military power would not lead to the complete disappearance of its influence in the region.
“Iran will continue to act in some way. Well, let us assume that its military power is reduced tenfold, so what? Does it change anything?” Sergey Kurginyan noted.
The political scientist recalled the situation in Iraq, where after the deployment of large US military contingents and their subsequent withdrawal due to unacceptable losses, the country was left with destroyed infrastructure and a radicalized population.
“The Americans fled from all the Islamic countries that the USA invaded because they suffered unacceptable losses during ground operations. These losses are too great for the USA, so it withdraws in order to avoid them. What did it leave behind? A destroyed, highly radicalized country,” said Sergey Kurginyan.
The analyst added that weakening one state automatically strengthens another player on the political map, which inevitably creates new centers of tension.
“As is known, there is a principle of balance of power. Iran–Iraq: you weaken Iraq, you strengthen Iran. Now you weaken Iran, you strengthen Turkey. This rule operates with absolute mathematical precision. It cannot be ignored. No matter how many craters you create to whatever depth, you have solved no problems. None!” Essence of Time‘s noted.
The political scientist noted that generational change in Iranian politics may only lead to further radicalization, since the younger generation is more inclined toward active measures and escalation of conflict.
“A generational shift in Iranian politics will mean that more radical people will replace the older generation. The older generation is tired; they’re already thinking about transferring power and so on, while the younger generation is much more active. They have a duty to fulfill; they will fight,” Sergey Kurginyan concluded.
