For a declining empire, the greatest threat is an ultimately radicalized barbarian, spiritually strong and ready to die to kill his enemy, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, philosopher and political scientist Sergey Kurginyan said on March 20 on the Conversation with a Sage program on Radio Zvezda.
“My colleagues from the United States of America love to refer in their actual politics to the Peloponnesian Wars or the history of Rome etc. Who destroyed Rome? Barbarians did, i.e. the Huns, the Goths etc. But whom did it fear? Carthage. They destroyed Carthage, but it did not save them,” Sergey Kurginyan said.
According to him, for an empire that wants to combat for its super-domination this way, the greatest threat comes from its own population becoming hedonistic. The analyst referred to ancient Rome as an example.
“As soon a decline began in Rome, as soon as the Roman legionnaire stopped fighting, as soon as they began to recruit aliens like Germans, Gauls, Brits, who wanted to fight for Rome and who believed in Rome sometimes even more than the Romans did, as soon as the core of Rome began to demand bread and games transforming into a hedonistic consumerist mass, Rome was doomed to destruction,” the political scientist said.
He noted that as soon as a person ready to fight for any goals, motivated by not only his own prosperity, united in something collective, e.g. a nation, ethnicity, or something else, degrades, no aircraft, no atomic weapons, no technological domination can save him.
“Even if they destroy something (e.g. cities) to ashes using such domination, in every hole there will be people whose hatred will only grow. They will have arms and all the other things,” Sergey Kurginyan said.
According to the analyst, what the US is doing now is very dangerous for China, which strongly needs Iranian oil, and it is dangerous not only in the pragmatic sense. Therefore, China will offer its support to Iran, the political scientist believes, and this support will grow.
“Thus, they will have arms and they will have people. No contingents can enter there. So what? This is a delay strategy. People, first of all the Israeli, as the US is only backing them, invent for themselves a terrible enemy, Iran, and they want to buy a pause by destroying its missiles and nuclear weapons to prevent a retaliation strike. But will they destroy some advanced chemical or bacteriological weapons, too? And will they also destroy the ways of transporting such weapons from one country to another?” Sergey Kurginyan asked.
According to the political scientist, it remains to be seen whether the US and Israel can buy such a delay, but even if they can, they cannot live by buying delays.
“And as soon as this is taking place, the only force that could stop the Sunni radical domination in the ISIS (organization banned in Russia) style is the Shia. Now the Shia are bad, they need the Sunni instead. But if you destroy the Shia, the Sunni become stronger,” the analyst said.
He noted that this is where the greatest threat for the US and Israel appears: it produces an extremely dangerous and ultimately radicalized barbarian, who is really strong spiritually, who receives the minimum necessary weapons, and who is ready to die to see his enemy eliminated.
